The intelligent valve positioner was first introduced by FISHER in the 1990s as part of its DVC product series, which significantly enhanced the control performance of control valves and achieved immediate and substantial market success. To this day, this product line remains the market leader in terms of global market share—according to data from ARC Advisory Group in 2007, it accounted for approximately 34% of the worldwide intelligent valve positioner market that year. Subsequently, several major international companies, including FLOWSERVE, Metso, Siemens, ABB, and Dresser-Masoneilan, launched intelligent valve positioners in a wide range of specifications. Leveraging their robust R&D capabilities and the strong industrial foundations of multinational corporations, these products have each captured a significant share of the market in this segment.
With the continued development of China’s economy, the Chinese market has become the world’s third-largest consumer market for smart positioners, trailing only Western Europe and North America. FISHER, having recognized the importance of the Chinese market at an early stage, was among the first international companies to enter China in this segment. Thanks to its outstanding technical specifications and reliable product performance, its DVC series has firmly established itself among high-end users in China. In contrast, international firms such as Metso, ABB, Samson, and Siemens entered the Chinese market somewhat later and have historically placed less emphasis on it, resulting in a relatively smaller market footprint compared with FISHER. Nevertheless, owing to their strong global brand recognition and superior product quality, they still command a substantial share of China’s mid- to high-end market. Yamatake and YTC (Yongtai of South Korea) are currently the two most widely used brands in China. Their product strategy is squarely aimed at mid- to low-end customers: their products are simple and easy to operate, highly reliable, and priced competitively to suit the vast majority of Chinese consumers. As a result, they enjoy widespread adoption and high brand awareness in China. Both companies also maintain manufacturing facilities in China, dedicated to supplying products and services tailored specifically to the Chinese market.
