What are the functions and features of an intelligent valve positioner?

The smart valve positioner is an intelligent field instrument. Thanks to the use of microprocessors and new control components, calibration of the valve positioner is more convenient, and its range of applications has been significantly expanded. Key features include:
1) Simple installation and flexible configuration: the system can be configured via software to implement various functions, such as automatic zero-point adjustment, automatic modification of control parameters for indication and alarm, travel limitation, and split-range control. It also allows for highly convenient setting and adjustment of the actuator’s direct or reverse action, flow characteristics, and other parameters.
2) Low air consumption: Traditional electric valve positioners use a continuous-air-consuming nozzle-and-flapper mechanism, whereas smart valve positioners replace this conventional nozzle-and-flapper system with a pulse piezoelectric valve. This pulse piezoelectric valve not only enables more precise and faster control but also remains in a non-air-consuming state for most of the time, venting air only when the smart valve positioner reduces its output.
3) Equipped with intelligent communication and on-site display functions, facilitating on-site maintenance and calibration.
4) The smart valve positioner can be installed separately from the control valve (whereas conventional valve positioners must be tightly mounted to the actuator).
5) Replace traditional valve position switches with non-contact position sensors, which are easier to use in harsh environments such as high temperatures and radiation.
6) Self-diagnostic function: The system not only performs fault diagnosis on the smart valve positioner itself, but also on the performance of the control valve body and the actuator.
7) For safety instrumented systems with extremely stringent actuation requirements for control valves, smart valve positioners offer highly convenient safety testing and functional verification capabilities.
