An intelligent valve positioner differs from a conventional valve positioner in that it requires no manual adjustment; instead, it automatically acquires and processes various data related to the valve and the positioner itself. Unlike traditional positioners, which typically receive signals from the control system and use these signals to generate electromagnetic force within a specified range—this electromagnetic force then acts upon the main lever—the position changes of the valve are primarily sensed and fed back through components such as the feedback element and the cam, ensuring that the main lever responds accordingly.

The operating principle of intelligent valve positioners is primarily driven by advances in science and aligned with market demands; they employ digital and electronic control methods, which is a hallmark of how artificial intelligence is currently being applied across various industries. The positioner receives setpoint signals from the control system, which are then processed by a high-precision computational algorithm to generate a digital setpoint value. Meanwhile, changes in the valve position are detected via a pre-designed feedback channel that produces an electrical signal, which is likewise subjected to high-precision computation to derive the corresponding setpoint value.

As an integral component of the control center, valves are required to enhance the overall operational performance of the mechanical system and to reflect advancements in the control center as instrumentation and control systems evolve. Therefore, the integration of artificial intelligence into valve positioners is a critical requirement.
