On July 12, 2017, grid fluctuations caused water ingress into the air supply of the secondary cooling water control valve for No. 2 continuous caster in the steelmaking plant, resulting in damage to the valve and widespread failures of 40 FISHER positioners. Following comprehensive consideration by the Control & Instrumentation Company of Wuhan Iron & Steel, a subsidiary of Baowu Group, TORLEO valve positioners were ultimately selected for on-site retrofitting to replace the FISHER positioners.
Upon receipt of the notification, our company promptly dispatched personnel to the No. 1 Steelmaking Plant to conduct on-site surveying and mapping. In response to the highly variable installation configurations of the positioners slated for retrofit, we custom-fabricated mounting brackets tailored to the specific site conditions and coordinated with the Production Department to expedite inventory preparation, thereby securing valuable time for the plant’s operational recovery. On August 1, 2017, five FISHER positioners were urgently replaced on-site; subsequent commissioning and testing confirmed that they met the process requirements and fully satisfied the production needs of the No. 1 Steelmaking Plant.
As of press time, all nearly 40 FISHER positioners that had experienced issues on site have been successfully replaced with TORLEO positioners from Wuhan, restoring normal production.
