On July 12, 2017, grid fluctuations caused water ingress into the air supply of the secondary cooling water control valve for No. 2 continuous caster at the First Steelmaking Plant, resulting in damage to the valve and widespread failures of 40 FISHER positioners. After comprehensive consideration by the Control & Instrumentation Company of Wuhan Iron & Steel, a subsidiary of Baowu Group, TORLEO valve positioners were ultimately selected for on-site retrofitting of the FISHER positioners. Upon receiving the notification, our company promptly dispatched personnel to the First Steelmaking Plant to conduct on-site surveying and mapping. In view of the highly variable installation configurations of the positioners to be retrofitted, we custom-manufactured mounting brackets tailored to the specific site conditions and arranged for the Production Department to expedite inventory preparation, thereby securing valuable time for the plant’s operational recovery. On August 10, 2017, a delegation of four—Director Cai, Engineer Yang, Engineer Wang, and Engineer Yi from Hubei Xinye Steel Co., Ltd.—visited, led by Mr. Chen, Director of Marketing and Sales, to observe the field application of TORLEO smart valve positioners at WISCO’s No. 1 Steelmaking Plant, including the secondary cooling water system, the oxygen plant, the second cold-rolling mill, and the thermal power station, where these devices have replaced American FISHER positioners. The delegation showed keen interest in the TORLEO positioner’s ability to achieve fault-lockout (three-failure safe-positioning) without the need for an additional power-loss comparator or solenoid valve. Following discussions with the heads of various WISCO plants, they unanimously concluded that this technology surpasses leading imported brands, significantly reducing users’ capital expenditure as well as operation and maintenance costs.
